Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen Ohh, man. I loved this book like whoa. Every time I picked it up, I'd get so sucked in I'd lose track of time. It was just so entirely enveloping--it's not very often that I read a book and don't end up looking at page numbers, waiting to be finished. Even when a book is really good, even when I love a book, I'll often be counting down for it to end. This book, I didn't even have time to think about the page numbers, because I was just there, in the story.

The book alternates time periods with just about every chapter, switching from the main character as an old man in a nursing home to his rememberances of his time on a train circus, as the veterinarian, during the Depression. It's a love story, there are animals--who are more human than a lot of the people, there's violence and sex, circus freaks, and awesome anecdotes. Damn. Just, damn. I loved it. There was nothing about this book that I didn't like.
