I was going to love this book. I was going to give it five stars and lots of exclamation points and effusive compliments. I was going to do all that, because it's an awesome book that deserves all that. But, instead, I was a lazy reader who only read this one during my breaks & lunches at work, and so I never was able to really sink into in the fashion in which I must to truly love a book. This book deserves better than me, and fortunately, it's had better. Lots and lots better. Go read any YA book blog, seriously.
The one thing I'd really like to say is how impressed I am by Ms. Fisher. The world she's created is complex and nuanced, and for anything of the events in the story to have an emotional impact, you need to have a pretty good grasp on what the world is like. She manages it beautifully--there is no part of this book that drags due to exposition.
